Hi,
Please can somebody give me a pointer here. I've tried everything I know and would really appreciate a pointer.

I recently added a soundblaster audigy 2 card to me PC (Win XP home) which has an on-board firewire connection. Prior to this I was using a dial-up internet connection to my ISP for internet access.

Everything seemed to work fine (ie sound was all ok) but when I tried to access the internet via the dial-up it didn't work.

That is to say, the dial up did in fact dial-up and connect to my ISP, but when I open IE or Outlook, they can't find a connection. IE complains about a DNS error.

When I look in my network connections, I have my dial-up but also a new entry for the firewire (under high speed internet / LAN) which makes me think that IE is trying to use the LAN which is, in fact, not connected to anything.

I've tried disabling the firewire; have tried telling IE to only dial my dial-up connection; tried re-installing the sound card and have also re-created my dial up connections after the sound card has been installed. None of these made a difference.

I have also altered the LAN connection so that it does not use TCP/IP and still nothing. I've run out of ideas. Please can someone help!!!

Once connected to your ISP try to run ipconfig from the command line and see what DNS servers are being used. After you know the IP address of the DNS servers, try pinging those IPs to see if they respond. If the DNS servers respond but you still can not surf, try putting an IP address in your browser instead of a hostname, such as...

instead of

If you are able to surf by IP address then contact your ISP and see if they are having DNS issues. Hope this helps.

I will give it a go - thanks very much for your help.

I also have this problem but putting the ip address in my browser does not resolve the problem. physical removal of the audigy 2 card & restoring to a pre installation point is my only option if i want to suef!

.....any ideas ?

I suspect there are some conflicts of settings. Create a new user via computer management and login, this way you have a new profile and new settings of your dial-up. Re-install dial up and try. By the way check the proxy settings of your ISP if it's required.

Same problem here.
Windwos XP home
Alcatel ADSL usb speedtouch home modem.
As soon as I install tha DV-action pro card from hercules I cannot surf anymore.
Although I can login with the provider( username/password check =ok), I cannot surf to any website anymore.
A new networkcard is detected, on which I cannot modify the settings(handled by System-account), and surfing does not work.

Any idea's?

Thx!

Everything works fine until you start recording from the cam.
As soon as I plug-in the cam,it creates a new entry(to the cam) in the network connections, using an IP-address in the range 0.4.0.5
From then on I'm trough surfing the web. Even when I disconnect thje camera, and reboot, it still won't work.
Need to use a rstore-point from before the cam was connected in order to make it work.

Been working on this for hours now and not getting any results.....

Nervous regards...

When I had this problem with my soundblaster, restoring the computer to a time before installation did not solve the problem with my dial-up. The connection would still be made but nothing (including internet explorer, messenger etc) could find that the connection existed.

I got stuck with this for a while and then just decided that I would re-install my PC. Obvioulsy this is a pain but I'd run out of ideas. Once I re-installed everything - installing the offending item first, then my modem etc everything was fine. That's how I've left it.

I sorted my problem by uninstalling my Firewall program (McAfee) & Virus Scanner (also McAfee). I could then surf sucessfully. I then enabled Win XP's internal Firewall for the dial up connection (which creates a MAC Bridge miniport) & installed my Firewall/Virus scanner software (PC-cillin 2002 this time) & everything works fine.
I havn't tried yet but suspect I could have just re-installed McAfee (and skipped the XP Firewall setup).
Hope this helps.

Aaarrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh,

BarnyP, you are GOD to me right now!

Uninstalling MCafee Antivirus did solve the problem.
Allthough Firewall was not installed
...so I do not fully understand but...the main thing is that the prob is solved.
Installed Norton afterwards and no problem at all....

I'll be testing this again later...

Thanx pall
