Maybe someone could point me to a good article on firewire's chances. Should I even bother investing in firewire stuff? I'd like a scanner & a webcam. But they virtually don't make them for firewire. It just makes no sense to me. These are devices that are high throughput, and yet you can only find them in USB. (I'm thinking of getting the UMAX 6400 - for $150, you get a firewire card too! Only have till March 31 for $50 rebate at justdeals.com. $250 at Fry's!) I've heard that USB 2 isn't such a good thing, since the mixture of high & low bandwith devices will slow it down considerably.

Sorry to vent, stuff like this just irks me. :(

Do the UMAX with the Fire Wire card. Fire wire is not going anywhere. Right now it is a new technology and a lot of companies are scared to invest in it. Eventually there will be more products. Just hang in there. :)

FireWire is out there for windows, you just a FireWire card, and some of the more typical uses, I've found were with video editing, most Sony cameras, Harddrive media.

at 400Mbits a second, it isnt exactly a mainstream product. But more so for professionals in areas such as Digital Film and Photography, or other bandwidth intensive work.

tho you can get a Firewire card for 50$
something like a 80Gig Firewire external drive is almost 400$ Karl Blessing aka kb244{fastHACK}
