Firewall event log question

I have McAfee Security Centre (Latest) installed on a pc w/dialup access. The firewall is registering over 2000 hits per day (for more than 3 months now) on port 445, Microsoft-DS, e.g. :

2004/11/05 22:03:49 XXX.XXX.XX.XX:1528 (dialup-XX.XX.XXX.XXX.acc04-dryb-mel.comindico.com.au) XXX.XXX.XX.XXX:445 Microsoft-DS

XP Pro SP2, PIII 1000MHz, all updates and malware protected.

most likely this is normal internet traffic.

unless it is trying to "probe" just certain unusual ports, i would not be too concerned.

when you are connected to the internet you become part of the digital highway. packets sent out traverse many paths just to get to the proper destination; your ip address is just one of the millions of paths.
