I am having an issue where my Scansoft PaperPort Leadtools imaging software from Nuance just stops working. Perhaps my Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus or firewall is causing this problem?
This software has two "printers" that show up in the list of printers when you click Print. But now for the second time, choosing these printers and printing to them does not create a PDF image in Paperport or anywhere.
Last time this happened I deleted those two printers and then reinstalled the Paperport software and it fixed this problem. But what a hassle.
Nuance does not want to give me any tech help since I am only using version 9 which came free with my Brother 7820n printer/scanner and am not using their most recent version 11 or 12. They want to sell me the new version for $99 which I don't want or need and don't trust to not have the same problem.
But their needs to be a way to keep this from happening in the future and also a way to get out of this jam right now without needing to reinstall the Paperport software which recreates those two "printer"s.

Anything useful in the manufacturer's knowledge base?

If you think other software is causing the problem try temporarily disabling it.

Are there any clues to be found in the Event Viewer?

Well, I started in a Clean Boot per that download and the problem still existed. Choosing to print to a Paperport pdf printer still did nothing. It hardly even pauses when I click the print button after choosing one of the Paperport printers.
So I restarted in Normal Mode so that my antivirus is enabled.
Can you offer me any other thoughts since Nuance doesn't want to help me figure this out?
ps I have tried creating and saving a dummy file named xxx.doc in Word and then after printing it to the Paperport pdf printer, doing a long system wide search using Start > Search (then using Search Companion) for any file with xxx in the file name and nothing is found except the original acctual doc

This program might be more useful than using Search to investigate further.

This is an Adobe troubleshooter, who knows, it might give you some things to check and try?

Troubleshoot printing problems (Acrobat 5.0-7.0 on Windows)

These might also not be much help as I don't use any Nuance products.

Troubleshooting for PDF Create

I am going nuts! Now it is working. When I hit File > Print, then select one of the Paperport printers to print to (either the color or black & white image Paperport printer), then print to it - it opens up Paperport and a new PDF file is created!

I hope it stays like so, whatever the unknown fix was. All the best.
