Whenever I start up Firefox on my computer i get the error:
"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

But the thing is, Firefox isn't running when i get this error. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox twice but this error keeps coming up.

Please help (and if you need any more details, i'd be happy to provide)

What processes are running in your Task Manager?

Agree with above. Strange that Firefox would be launching itself automatically yet not be visible running except in task manager. Maybe it's some spyware/adware/malware using Firefox to phone home silently. Sounds crazy, but I'd do a full malware sweep on that PC.

I've looked through the task manager. I don't see anything Firefox related.
On a side (but entirely related) note, my old user profile was recently corrupted so I manually copied all of my data to a new profile. I think Firefox got messed up somewhere during the copy process because I made another user profile and Firefox worked fine...
Also, there was no malware/adware/spyware, etc. when i did a check.
Also, nothing Firefox-related (as far as I know) is running at startup.

I may have a nice simple solution to this problem but I don't wanna do it and then regret it later, so can anyone tell me:
If i just delete ALL Mozilla Firefox-related files (literally everything) and then download Firefox again, does anyone think it will work?

whenever I get that error I right mouse on the firefox icon (mine is in the taskbar) and click open.

Firefox opens and I can then exit gracefully.

Nope, sorry mscallisto, didn't work for me like that.
Thanks for trying to help, though.

When firefox does open is it opening more than one tab?
If so set the home page only and no tabs and see if the issue still exists

tlcousin,
Yes, Firefox opens more than one tab when it opens (on the other account i created, not my most used one)
I'll test that and get back to you
in about a minute lol

tlcousin,
Didn't work. I set the homepage to be just one tab, no change.

Thanks anyway, though

If you are going to try deleting all the Firefox related files and then download it again, do it after using the proper uninstaller so you have less to delete from the Registry and Folders. Make sure the deletions relate to Firefox and not Windows.

Thank you all for your help.
I did what you said, linney, and made sure that i uninstalled Firefox before deleting everything. Now it works fine

Thanks again.
