Nice handle Mr. Schmidt, it's nice to see another schmidt head in the forum.
well, I may be guilty of using IE, but only because I have been to lazy to download one of the many other web browser available. As I have said in previous posts, an OS is only as good as the monkey using it. You may just not know enough about the OS to be using it in the manor you wish to use it.
I don't really care for Windoze my self, but I enjoy playing ST Armada II in my free time and all my cusotmers use Winblows. So I just have to use it to entertain my self with a game I enjoy and to make the pay check I enjoy bringing home. Would love it if Aramada ran on Linux, damn DirectX 9 dirvers keep crashing if I have the smallest app running in the back ground. The pride Linux guys have in their OS would more than likely have a fix for such an issue very quick.
There are many other options avilable, I will point my customers to a Novell solution were ever it fits in, but there are time I just have to recomend the M$ solution because thats just what works.
It would be nice if the Win code was made open to the public, and last I heard, that was supposed to be part of the judgment. If it does happen, it will be usless because it only has M$ release code for the Win9x platform, not the NT technology (2k, XP, 2003). So it will be pretty usless.
What would be usefull is a complete and full disclosure of all APIs in Windows and prevent M$ from any court proceedings when a competitior creates a 100% compatible OS to compete with Windows. We only need one company to create the 100% compatible OS to compete with Windows, then not only would we see a better OS come out, we would also see M$ improve their OS and take consumers seriously about security fixes. M$ has put many companies like Novell and RealNetworks in check to produce better products at cheeper prices. Novell is very close, but RealNetworks still needs to get a clue (great product idea, but make it stable and less intrusive on the system).
I long for the day when it don't work right on "Microsoft Windows", a user or company can go to "Sony Windows" with minimul user training and zero cost in replacing apps, because they would not have to replace any apps nor retrain users on those apps, just the basics of the OS. BTW, M$ lost their trademark rights to Windows, so anyone can use it for their OS. That was one good thing that came out of the Lindows project.
M$ was only able to take the Office market because WP failed as a company, Novell failed to do much with it when they bought it, and Corell just hasn't done much to imporve the functionality of the suite (and Parodox is a joke).
