I'm the net admin for a school district. I frequently have to go into classrooms to fix problems which require me to log in with my network admin password. As I look around during this I'm reminded of the expression "tree full of owls". I was wondering about the portable finger print readers like Sony FIU810s. Does anybody have experience with them? Can I use them for a Win3K Domain login? Appreciate the help.

Dunno about the portable ones, but on my new Dell Latitude D820 laptop, it has a fingerprint reader that does let me log into XP with just the swipe of a finger.

And you can log in to a domain with it? We bought some cheap (~$40) ones, that would allow a Windows log in, but not to a domain.

Yep. But - it runs on some software called Embassy ( that uses the TPM features for authentication. It lets me into the domain. Pretty slick, but it took a little effort to get it going - some of which I attribute to learning curve.
