Cud u tell how to find the name of GC server in a subnet.
Can we use AD Sites and Subnets? I have many subnets. I would like to take an ipaddress and find out if there is a GC server in the subnet this ip address belongs.

And to make a ldap query to GC to see if directory lookup/authentication is working?

Thank you

Thanks Mlichstein.

We can also find out from AD Sites and Subnets right?

If not, what DNS command-line utilities I can use? Could you be more specific? Thank you very much.

There isn't any easy way to determine what servers in a subnet are GCs by using sites and services.

In the DNS console you can go into the _msdcs folder and look at the gc folder. All GCs will register here.

Ummm...ok.

So there is no way to find out if there is a GC for a given subnet

Today one of the exchange servers was logging in event with 9098 "The MAD Monitoring thread was unable to read its configuration from the DS, error '0x80041001'"

Also 2102 "Process MAD.EXE (PID=6488). All Domain Controller Servers in use are not responding: ...."

After spending lot of time, we found that the server name has been removed/deleted from Sites/Subnets.

So, I was trying to know if there is a tool to quickly run to check normal AD settings of these:

1. Check to see if the server name is listed in Sites/subnets

2. Check to see if AD authentication is working, though we could ping GC

3. Check to see which subnet this exchange server belongs to, so we know which GC server it should technical authenticate from

Are there any other troubleshooting areas or tools we need to know to cover everything between Exchange server and GC.

Thank you in advance.
