I have a HUGE spread sheet and contains the word "Budget" in column "C" repeated 1000 or so times. I want an easy way of finding all the lines that have "budget" in it and deleting the whole line.

Any ideas?

Hi,

"...finding all the lines that have "budget" in it and deleting the whole line"

Blue, that just deletes the WORD.

Turn on the AutoFilter

Filter using CUSTOM - CONTAINS your word.

select the ROWS, right-click - Delete Row.

Skip,

That sounds like the key SkipVought, but I am running 2003, is that just a 2007 feature? I can't find it. (and sorry for not stating my version to begin with )

OK found Autofilter, but it looks like I still have to delete each row by itself your way unless I am missing something.

BTW I call my motorcyce the blue dragon.

One more thing. Even if I right-click and delete all 7543 lines that still leaves a blank line instead of removing the line..... God I hate spreadsheets.

Once you've filtered on "Budget", Select all rows except the header row*, Right Click and select Delete Rows. It will ask if you want to delete entire rows. Reply "Yes". Turn off AutoFilter to reveal what's left.

*There are several ways to do this. Among them:
[tab]- Click on any column in row 2 (or whatever the first row visible with the word "Budget" in it is), press [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Down Arrow]
[tab]- Click on any column in row 2 (or whatever the first row visible with the word "Budget" in it is), press [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[End]
