Does anyone know of a way to imitate the excel fill down function in Access? or is there any way to do a group modify? Thanks

Robert

Yes, there is a way. You can use an Update query. If you give us a bit more detail, we can help you through it, or you might want to check out the help files on Update queries; I think they have some good examples.

Kathryn

I know you can group modify with an update query for all the records in one field. What I want is where a person can go into a form and change a field from NUll to whatever value he/she wants. The only thing with this is that some records with the null field I don't want updated. Therefore I just want a certain number of records updated. For example, I may want to update a field for records 10-30. Thanks for replying.

Robert

You can use criteria in an update query, so you don't have to change all the records in a field.

Could your user fill out a form with the beginning and ending record numbers, or whatever criteria you want? Then you could give the user a button to click to do the update, and in the code behind the button you would build (and execute) the update query, using the input record numbers to create your WHERE clause.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I hope it helps.

Kathryn

I thought about that, having parameters and putting them in the criteria, but I don't think the users will know what the record numbers are unless they look at the table. They can look at the table and then do it, but I wanted a way pretty much where on a form where I displayed the datasheet view that they could drag and drop down or something to that point. The other problem I have with that is the table that we will be updating is about 70 fields large and if we have a box for all those fields to update then our form will look mighty messy. That's why we prefer a datasheet view. Thanks for helping.

Robert
