alright I had this folder which had pretty important stuff to me (music, etc). Well I orignally had all this information on my old western digital 80gb. I had this maxtor 80gb hard drive lying around so I added that and moved my files from the western digital to maxtor. This was a couple days back. Yesterday, I went to the same folder. When I double clicked it, i heard this click from my psu i think, kind of like a switch. My computer froze, so I restarted. Once I got back to the screen, I double clicked on the folder, and I got a click from the psu. Again, the computer froze and I restarted. This time I got a chkdsk on that hard drive. After that I went back to the hard drive and my folder was not there. However, the space taken by the folder and others are the same as before. I booted to a live cd, and that folder was not there. Is it the chkdsk?

kasemodz,

Click! Click! Might have been the HD. Did you run a full diagnostic in this drive prior to installing it? I would do that now.

If you are taxing the PSU output(or it's output is diminishing) this can also be a cause for this behaviour.

Try not to write anything to this drive in the event it is the drive, Your chances of restoring any lost(not visible) files will increse.

If you don't have a favorite disk health application, as this is a maxtor drive, you can get their utility MaxBlast4 at their down load page on their site.

I correct myself as I too often suggest the drive formatting utility.

What you are looking for is PowerMax utility, their diagnostics.

there was no click click on the hard drive. It had worked perfectly with linux.
