Files gone after renaming

Mac OS X problems, I am running Quarkxpress 4.1, we save all our files on a server we are running one computer with Mac OS X and for other computers with Mac OS 9 when we rename a file on the server with a Mac OS 9 computer the Mac OS X computer hides the file that has been renamed. We have to restart the Mac OS X computer in order to see the files that have been renamed.
Any comments or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
