Dear all,

I would like to ask the question. I want to use Photoeditor to open these files when these files are *.jpg. On the other hand,I would like to open *.tif with other application program.(e.g. Groupwise Imaging). I change the file type in Windows Explorer. But it occurs that both *.jpg & *.tif is opened by PhotoEditor. What can I do?

Hi,

How did you change the file types?

This is what should be done, but I'm not sure if this is what you did, you haven't explained what you did.

Goto CONTROL PANELS then goto FOLDER OPTIONS. Click on the FILE TYPES tab. It will show a flashlight searching for a second, then will show all the different file types used on the computer. Scroll down until you find TIF and TIFF and then click on each one then look 2/3 the way down on the dialog box where it says: "Opens with: [PROGRAM]. Click on the change button and select the program you wish to open the file with. Then click APPLY and OK.

Is that what you did? If not, do that and it should work for you.

Hope this helps! NATE

Try this:
1. Select a JPG file
2. Right Click on the selected file
3. "Open With ..."
4. Select PhotoEditor and "Always open with ..."
5. OK

1. Select a GIF file
2. Right Click on the selected file
3. "Open With ..."
4. Select Groupwise Imaging and "Always open with ..."
5. OK

If this don't work, check for something like "Maintain file association" in the configuration of the 2 programs.

To: RSi2 & SPYDERIX,

Thank you for advice. I haven't FOLDER OPTION under the control panel. I use Win 95 Environment. I open windows Explorers and select Option from the View Menu. And then, select File Types Tab. I can change the application program in there. For Tif file, I use GroupWise Imaging Program to open it. For Jpb file, I use Photoeditor Program. But, it cannot work. May be something wrong in editing. Can anyone help me to edit?

well i don't remember all the tricks on W95 and i'm on NT4 machine now.
Try editing directly the registry
regedit.exe

in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Extensions

.ini "notepad.exe ^.ini"

try serching your registry for .jpg , .gif to see what you can find

I had "tricked" win95 myself to open up Qbasic files with either ver 1.1 or ver 4.5 (and this was of my "choosing") however, a DEFAULT must be set (in my case I used QB 4.5)

If memory serves...

highlight the file(s) and click view>options>file types.

find the "JPG - Photo Editor" and select it.

click on NEW (not sure-home pc is ME but have access to a 95 at work but most likely it's NEW maybe ADD..I'll check)

in the action name type in "Open_Groupwise" (remember to use the underline (since it's win95)

in the box below that, browse for Groupwise's EXE file and copy the path to that box.

then click on accept/ok and close the file assoc. box.

now try it----> open up explore, find a JPG, RIGHT-click and select "Open_Groupwise".

Let us know what your results were.
