I have W2000 servers with a network of XP workstations. I recently applied SP4 to the W2000. Workstations have been SP1 since the installation. I have a script file that copies files from one server to another. This runs at the proper speed if run locally on the server or on any of the desktop PCs. It used to run at the same speed on the laptops but now runs at about 1/20th of the speed. I have tried swopping laptops and network connections to no effect. I have tried the laptop that never travels and so was built the same as the PCs in that it has no extra virus protection, firewalls or any other software. Has anyone any suggestions as to where else to look?

Try checking network monitor (on the server) while the script is running to see what might be going on. Compare the pc's with the laptops to see what is the difference.

You can also check the event log on the server for anything fishy....

If it use to be working before then maybe you did some configuration/installation(sw or hw) on the laptops only. Undo the changes and see how it goes. Check the processes on the task manager on what consuming your resources during copying.
