I have a computer with Windows Xp (fat32 partitioning). I am the local Administrator on the machine. I have copied a folder over to the computer from a CD but when I try to open the folder I get the error permission denied.

How can I change the rights on this folder so I can get in?

what might be causing this error?

Where did you obtain the files from? Network server with rights administration filtered to file and folder level?

When burning a CD ROM, sometimes the file and folder attributes are re-set.

Try right clicking on the file or folder and re-set permissions or attributes.

Sorry for the brief reply....

The computer is not on a network.. it is a stand alone..

I thought that the only attribute that you could change through properties was Read-only, Archive and Hidden.

When you take the properties there is no tab for security (???)

Is there more to this than meets the eye???

PROBLEM SOLVED - for future reference

Contol Panel, Appearence and Themes, Folder Options.

View, Turn off "Use Simple File Sharing", Apply.

Right Click on file, properties, security.

This gives the same interface as Win2k.
