File opened exclusively

Hi there:
I have just acquired VFP 8 and have a slight problem.
If modify a table, then come come out of it and run a form against it I get a message "error: table in use. The table may already be opened exclusively"
The only way to get things going again is to come out of VFP.
I have checked Tools/Option/Data and Opened exclusive is unchecked.
Could anybody advise, please?
By the way, I got VFP on your recommendations; it looks pretty good (and very fast) so far! I am going to migrate all my paradox stuff stright over (once I have solved this, that is!)

Welcome to VFP. I'm sure you will enjoy using it (but don't be surprised if you get many more problems; it is a complicated product. But you know where to come for help.)

In general, when you come up against this sort of problem, it's useful to execute the following commands from the command window:

CLOSE ALL
CLEAR ALL
RELEASE ALL
CLEAR

That will create a "clean slate" from which to run your test. In fact, many of us place those commands in a small PRG, and run it whenever things get unstable. It's quicker than going out of VFP and back in again.

Hi Cobweb

When you are in development environment ... with the project open and the Data tab of the project window the current visible one .. VFP opens the DBC and depending on thecase, tables are opened by VFP. SO you get that error.

You make some other tab the current tab and then quit VFP and then start it.. try out your forms.. you may not get that error.
