I hope someone can help me. I have a laptop that gets an error message when it starts, it says "The system cannot find the file specified."

If I look at the Event Viewer I see this message:

"The Client Service for NetWare service terminated with the following error. The system cannot find the file specified."

I have checked the network connections and the Netware client is not on any of them.

There is another message in the event viewer that says:

"The NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol service failed to start due to the following error. The parameter is incorrect."

Again I cannot find IPX... being loaded anywhere.

Can someone point me in the direction to look?

I would go to the start run and type msconfig and see what is trying to load.

You should find something that has to do with the errors that you are getting. Uncheck the ones that are causing the error.

Hope that helps,

Erik

I have checked MSCONFIG. There is a Netware service there but it is stopped. I unchecked it and restarted but still get the same error. The user did tell me he connected to a Netware network early last week but I didn't think that would cause these issues.

I know this isn't conventional but try looking at this:

and downloads and get Hijack This!

Run that and you might find the cause of the problem, it is usually for spyware and viruses detection, but you may find it useful for find the cause of the error you are getting. Feel free to post the scan results...

Thanks Erik

I thought I was going to have the laptop longer but I had to get it back to the user (our CEO) so I can't run Hijack This. He doesn't seem to be bothered by the error, but it bothers me. When I get it back again I'll try running this utility.
