File locking problem...

Anyone experiencing file locking problem in Windows NT 4 SP6a? Almost daily we are closing open files, using net files, which never seem to timeout and close by themselves. Does anyone know of a parameter I can set? Even if everyone logs off the network, the files remain open. Any help would be appreciated?!!
