We recently switched over to Windows 2000 server with Active Directory. We are randomly having users lose their file associations with Microsoft Office products..most specifically Excel 2000. The only thing we know that is consistent between the users is that they have been prompted (right before this happened) to change their passwords. (I realize that this doesn't sound like it could have anything to do with it but it is the only common link we've found.) Some users are able to reassociate their files with "open with" and everything is fixed but most users have to do a reinstall of Office. Any idea what could be causing this..or how to fix it on the masses before it becomes a REAL problem? THANKS!

What are the file associations changing too? Adobe,notepad,etc......

It is changing to no file association (windows default). On the computers that we are having to reinstall Office it gives a message saying that there are no programs associated with this file type or that there is no setup file for this file type.

We too have had some problems with file associations, not quite like you but still a real pain.
What our users wanted was to open a gif in microsoft image composer. Easy enough to do you would imagine, but no way.
The only way we have found to get it working is to make the users power users. We get an error on opening the file as domain users (unsupported file or filter error)
