Probably an easy one but, alas, not for me it would seem.

Using SuSE Enterprise Server v9 and Samba v3, have a share with a few people using and some of the folders and files created have the file attribs rwxr=xr-x+ ?? What is the plus sign for? why is it at the end of the permissions. Users have complained of not being able to access files and folders created by other users.

Thanks

Are you sure there is an "=" in there?

The + at the end usually means there is an ACL on the file/directory. ACLs allow you to set extended permissions and default permissions on newly created files.

See the getfacl and setfacl man pages for details.

Thanks for your help. I looked up ACL's, it was then it clicked, our engineering department head likes to tinker! It turns out he had been right clicking on folders from his Windows XP workstation and trying to add user rights through the advanced area in permissions tab.

So he had added this ACL information which I had never implemented.

*sigh* Can't work with them, can't shoot em'.

Thanks
