I have a fax machine with a DID attached to it that worked since it went in (5 weeks ago). Now all of a sudden, when calling the number, we get a "number is out of service" message. We can call locally within the building from this fax, and we can send faxes out. I removed the station from programming, and duped it from another fax station form and still the same thing. I have been on with the Telco for the last 10 days, and they are persistent in it being our issue. Is there anything I could be missing?

Using an Avaya S8730.

where is the number out of service message coming from?
telco, or your system's announecements?

check your dial plan analysis and udp (uniform dial plan) see if you have the extension pointing to another switch.

The message is coming from the Telco. Dialplan is fine, UDP is fine, cross-connects are fine, stat on the station is fine. The number is the second last number in a range that all work fine from the Telco. And this one did work as well. We are not sure why it stopped working.

do a list trace on the tac of your trunk group, see if your call is even hitting the PBX. If its not making to the PBX its the LEC. Are you the only person making changes to the switch. If not do a list history and see what changes were made around that time frame. Calling the D.I.D internally and being able to send out really have nothing to do on the inbound path since this is a D.I.D off a t1.

Who is your carrier? When you dispute this issue with the LEC, for instants lets say AT&T. With AT&T they have on net to on net dialing. On net to on net means a seperate and cheaper route for at&t to at&t calls, 9 times out of ten, the rep doing the testing will make a test call and see that it is working. Thats because they are on net and on net to on net is not broken. When you and them do you testing, make sure your test calls are coming from a different carrier. If it fails from a different carrier, then it is not your problem and its your LEC

Ok.. so here is the info on the trace:

13:39:01 Calling party trunk-group 1 member 18 cid 0x2b48
13:39:01 Calling Number & Name NO-CPNumber NO-CPName
13:39:01 active trunk-group 1 member 18 cid 0x2b48
13:39:01 dial 33808
13:39:01 term trunk-group 1 cid 0x2b48
13:39:01 idle trunk-group 1 cid 0x2b48
13:39:32 TRACE COMPLETE trunk-group 1 cid 0x0

I do have extensions 33803-05 set up for Inuity ports but I don't have an extension 33808. I am not sure what is make it dial that extension.

azavayatelcoman,

I want to thank you for your help. You said enough to remind me to check the incoming call treatment and sure enough, there is was. I removed, that fax is now working.

Thanks!!!! This place rocks.
