Faulty Local Area Connection

I recently tried to install PCSync onto my new XP system and the cable adapter drivers won't install, so now, whenever I reboot, the OS asks me if I want to install the drivers from disc or search the internet for them neither which work.

I just want to uninstall the network connection for the cable. It's a LAN connection for a serial cable for Laplink (parent company) but when I delete the connection I can no longer connect to the internet for some reason.

Could you be of some assistance in this matter?
