Would like some advise please
Ok my primary ide has failed and wont detect any drives so I have put my drives on my secondary being 1 80 pata master and 1 dvd rom slave.
Removed motherboard (Epox) from case and found one leaking cap of which I replaced but the primary still wont detect any drives
My question is it worth persisting with this mobo ie pci ide card or would it be better to start looking for another mobo this is my second computer which is only used by kids for gaming .

If you had one leaking capacitor you are bound to have other bad capacitors with it. They don't need to be leaking to be bad. Another signs of bad caps is bulging, especially at the top of the capacitor. And who knows, perhaps the leaking cap caused permanent damage to the board.

In my opinion, replace the board and save yourself some headaches.

You could disable all onboard IDE and put an expansion IDE in place. Cheaper than a M/B swap with the conversions you are likely to hit.
But it is probably just a short time till other problems will start showing up.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

I would say that you have done enough, it's not worth any more of your time, replace the motherboard.
I'm guessing this is an older 478 or socket A motherboard?
These can really be bought very cheaply now so in my opinion it is not worth persueing the PCI to IDE card option.
Cheap socket 478/462 boards can be had from as little as £25/$36
If you try and get the same chipset that your current board has, you will probably get away without having to reformat.

Thanks everyone for your input I have been looking for another board and as per usual paparazi you were right on the money it is infact a socket A with a Via kt333 chipset.
I suppose I will keep the system running and see how long it lasts

All the later Via socket A (462) motherboards use the same Via 4in1 drivers so it would make more sense going for a replacement KT400/KT600, these are still on the shelves but not for long.
Budget options
Just be aware new socket A boards are slowly dissapearing.

Thanks for the links there aren't alot of new socket A boards avalible localy plenty of used nforce2 boards which I have found tempting I havent been able to find any new Via platforms.
This board is readily avalible $60.00 (have 1 on order)
Not much of an ugrade (epox EP6K3A) only usb2 8x agp
no Barton support, no dual channel,no 400 fsb.
Haved decided it might be time to go 939 socket thought maybe a DFI board and start watching the price on AMD chips have read in some forums that there could be some good discounts soon for current high end chips.

Update on my dying epox board no more usb will only boot with a 133 fsb setting I think i should shut it down in case I damage any other componets.

Cheers Paparazi always good advise much appreciated

Well! Nforce2 was the best for socket A but it would mean a format/re-install
As you point out NF2 supports all sockt A (462) CPU's (bios flash for later Sempron)
We used to use that cheap Asrock K7S42GX, it was reliable enough but not in the same league as a NF2 with seperate graphics card.
Note Socket 939 is now the outgoing socket for AMD.
The new kid on the block is M2 soxket 940 which uses DDR2 memory.
Although 939 is just as quick unless very expensive/fast DDR2 800 or above is used on the M2.
