fatal exception errors 2

i keep gettin fatal exception errors all the time, some are 06 (which i believe meand that the processor cant read a bit a code) and also havin VXD and VMM errors. ia m runnin windows 98, i have clean booted and run the system with just the bare bones runnin this stops the exception errors but it still crashes regularly and i get protection errors,
(is this because with the minimum ruunin i cant display exception errors or is this likely to be a different problem?)

Constant Fatal Exception Errors could mean faulty RAM or a faulty HDD. Could also mean Corrupt install of Windows or a bad Mainboard. Hard to tell without testing. (Unless someone else has ran into the very same thing and had it fixed) Have them both tested and see if one of them is having the problem. Let me know what happens. James Collins

If you have it overclocked it could lead to these type of problems also. If it is so, try running it at the regular speed and see if it helps. Justin

thanx for the help you 2, im goin to post a mssge later with how its goin so far....justin when you say when you say over clockin what do you mean?
the cpu is a amd k6-2 500mhz, ive changed the clock speed from 500 to 400mhz will let you know the result

thanx all, putting the clock speed down on the cpu seems to have done the trick.
however in the course of tryin to fix it i did a clean boot with just the basics running, this caused the color to go a bit funny, the system is back runin normal but the colour has stayed the same.
i tried changin colour from 16 to 256 in display/settings, it then asks me to restart which i do but the colour goes back to 16
any ideas any1

Delete your color card and let 98 sort it out when it reboots. Should reload the correct drivers. Ed Fair

Having the same problem as original but hardware not strong point. How do I know what speed PC's clock running at and how do I change it?

Exception = 0028:C026864F in VXD VMM(06)+0000164F

if i were you i would check if they have anything on that particular error number in the microsoft knowledge base.
you will be able to see what speed it is running at on boot up (eg AMD k6-2 500MHz). to change it go into the CMOS settings, usually by pressing delete on boot up when screen says loading windows. goto CPU PnP set up and you can change it there.
