Can anyone tell me the technical differences between FAT 32 And NTFS? Also, I can understand why NTFS was better than FAT16 (before FAT32), however why is NTFS better than FAT32? I have also been told that domain servers must be set up on NTFS. Is this true????

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Excellent article, indeed! is a great site for this kind of information.

One thing I didn't see in that article when I skimmed it was speed advantages of NTFS vs. FAT32. From real-world benchmarks that I've seen in the past, it appears that FAT32 is quicker on partitions less than 30GB in size. As you move towards larger partitions, the gap closes and they start to level out. Plus, it is often said that NTFS is faster on very large partitions 60GB or greater.

A lot of it also depends on the type of apps/programs you plan on running. Database software work well with NTFS's indexing capabilities, usually yielding better performance over FAT.
