SQL server to third party app via ODBC?

What is the fastest way to do the following:

1.) Nightly download of data from BTrieve database.
2.) Centralized reporting tool to access stored data.

I have tried storing the data in SQL server then accessing the data via Cognos Impromptu but it takes a minute to download the data. I need to know what is the fastest way to present the information in a pretty format to the user. ODBC takes too long. I would like to create views then have the users be able to zap the data into a report form.
