I am attempting to send alerts for successfully completed jobs via SMTP on ArcServe Backup 11.0. However, when I look in the Alert Manager Activity Log, there is an error that states "Failed to Send SMTP (80000001)". The message is never received. I have the issue when the job tries to send a message and when I do a Test message from Alert Manager. Does anyone know exactly what this error means?

I have configured the SMTP server, added recipients, and have entered the account that will be used.

I have multiple servers with ArcServe installed that are sending messages via SMTP successfully. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

HI,

What version of Alert is installed?
Do you have etrust installed as well ?

Alert says Version 7. No, etrust is not installed.

Try another kind of alert to make sure the problem is only with SMTP.

I have not heard of an error code list for Alert.

Put Alert in debug mode for more information. It is done via a registry hack.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\Alert\CurrentVersion\Service

Highlight Service, then select Edit Add Key,

Key Name: Trace
Class: (leave blank), click OK

Highlight Trace, then select Edit Add Value,

Value Name: (pick from the list below),

Data Type: REG_DWORD,
click OK, Data: 1 = On, 0 = Off

Other acceptable data values = 2, 3 (higher value generating the most detail in the log)

Application to Trace Value Name Ouput File
MS Exchange ExchPstr AlrtExch.log
MS Mail MsmlPstr AlrtMsml.log
Unicenter TNGPstr Alrt_TNG.log
Lotus Notes NotePstr AlrtNote.log
