I am using ArcServe 7 on Novell 4.11 and can't get it to connect to two Win2k servers when trying to run a backup. It keeps coming up with "failed to connect to workstation." I can ping and browse the file system on the Win2k server. Any ideas - I'm losing my mind!!!

Just to clarify, when I run the job it comes up as job failed. The error from the log is "E1146 failed to connect to workstation @ IPAddress - Is Agent Loaded 0."

Any ideas?

Well is the Client Agent loaded?
Can you browse the system via the Client Agent from with in the ARCserve Manager?

Yes, I can browse the file system within ArcServe Manager...

The response does not answer the question.
Only so much time, so plain and simple for the last time
Is the Client Agent loaded on the Windows system?

Here are a few things to try.
Enter the security information in the format DomainName\UserName.
Try setting up the agent for password security.
Put the agent in debug, from that log you can tell if there is a connection atempt.
Make sure it is the correct version of the agent installed.

Thanks for the ideas, I will give it a shot.

Have you got IPX loaded on your W2k servers? On the other hand, if your W2k servers only have IP, have you got IP loaded on your NW 4.11 server?

No IPX installed on the Win2K, but there is IP on the 4.11

Make sure your IP configuration on the NetWare 4.11 server is correct (ie. correct default gateway and subnet mask). You will not be able to connect to a NetWare 4.11 server via IP (map a drive etc..), but I believe you can use IP to backup with.

It definately looks like a problem on the NetWare server (unless you want to add IPX to one of your W2k servers and try that)?
