Hi to all,

After a hard drive crash of a maxtor 40gb, I have installed a new Seagate 80gb and reinstalling w2k pro. Upon bootup, I get the message "failed to arc read the boot partition to check for the signature". Tried two new disks, same result, then when loading w2k setup, it comes up with a "disk i/o error: 0000400". I have cleared the cmos, replaced IDE cable, etc. Did some reserach, but couldn't come up with a solid answer. Mobo is ECS K7S5A, 512 PC2100, Athlon XP 1800 CPU. Still researching, trying different things. Any ideas on this one? Maxtor had a floppy disk that asked you to load before installing I belive.....not sure if this was done on the original install.

Thanks!

. If the BIOS has a virus protection feature for the MBR, disable it.

. If you have a zip drive, physicly disconnect it until after the installation is completed

. Check the drive jumpers. Some drives distinguish between being Master in a single vs. Master in a dual drive configuration.
