Greetings,

We have a Dell PowerEdge 2500 Server with Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 running and an internal Seagate 20/40 GB tape Backup. In 4 years never a problem, but last week, it started reporting that the daily backups have failed.

Can anyone suggest a starting point in looking for a resolution to the problem? We have run the cleaning tape and the backup failed that night. We also restarted the server and that day it also failed again.

I am wide open to suggestions.

Thanks, Joel

This may have been solved. We looked at a job log from a successful backup and the failed backups and there was one directory that kept being mentioned in the log as not being able to be found. We realized that we had moved a directory so we are waiting to see if the backup goes through tonight. I will post back tomorrow.

A failed job message doesn't always mean the job failed.

If even one file or directory can't be found or accessed, BE will backup everything else but still report FAILED. Why? Because it was supposed to backup that file and couldn't.

Thanks Bill. I had a feeling that it would but we were worried about a bigger problem.
