SAP running on Sol 8 .. on archive log mode... due to tight $$ they dont have the hot backup agent, its all done via the DBA's homegrown script. Bacup gets going but SLOW! So far errors seen are:

Cannot write to STDOUT Errno=32 Broken pipe

in the bpsched log

amy ideas appreciated

How are you doing the backup?
Brbackup to disk, then copy to tape?

So you shutdown sap/oracle before each backup?

update:

the issue was traced to faulty switch configuration. we had to eliminate everything before getting the networking guys involved.

all my life i have stayed away from autonegotiation of link speed and mode and such. I always hard coded for 100/full and i asked for the same on the switch. well, turns out this 10/100/1000 switch likes to negotiate.

thanks for trying to help!
