Extremely Slow Log Off Process

My brand new laptop ( 2 months ) is taking forever to log off, after the saving settings, the screen remains blue and the mouse is still active, but never logs off. I know there is a patch for the w2k version for this problem, but I can't seem to find the XP patch. Can somebody help me out.
