What's up??? My computer has turned into cold molassas when it boots up! It takes about 2 minutes after the desktop appears before any program will work. The icons are there but either won't respond when clicked or the hourglass appears for about 3 seconds but the program won't open. I wait a while and everything works fine. I have WinXP Pro, MSI motherboard, AMD Athelon 2200+ CPU.

How does it go in Safe Mode? If it's OK try these.

In addition to linney's suggestions, try,

Start>Run>Type "msconfig"

Have a look at the startup tab & untick programs which arn't necessary to what you need when starting up.

Hope this helps,

- It runs well in safe mode.
- Spyware - I have both Spy Sweeper & Spybot running
- I have ZoneAlarm firewall running
- I have Norton anti-virus running with latest virus definition updates
- I have Norton Internet Security running
- I have all the latest Microsoft updates
- I ran a registry cleaner last night
- I'm going to defrag tonight

Maybe I have too much running?

I'll look at msconfig.

Are you running 2 or more firewalls?

ZoneAlarm and Norton™ Personal Firewall and even XP's internal firewall?
