I use internet explorer 6.0 and have recently begun have problems with extreme delays on the internet. It's very wierd because I have an ADSL connection and 512 MB ram. When I click the internet explorer icon there is a pretty good delay before the page pops up, and then when I click LOG ON there is another delay before the logon box pops up. On certain sites I can connect at regular speeds but most of the time there is a hefty delay time. I don't believe it has to do with traffic because I get on the internet at low traffic times only. Also when I am filling out forms online or anything that uses text boxes, there is the same extreme delay between the time I click on the text box and the time that I can see the cursor or start typing. Does anybody know what is going on?

I am wondering if your problem is actually browser related or your DSL connection. I would first recommend if you have not already done so is to try testing your DSL connection at In the TOOLS section you can check their TWEAK took which will let you know if there are some settings that should need to adjusted to make sure you are fully optimized.

From personal experience when I had delays through my DSL line I used the tip at the following link which solved my problem.

Well I tried the dls report to no avail. It said my connection was fine. Any suggestions now?

For what its worth...

Are you accessing the Internet through the ISP's proxy server. A proxy server can increase security and—when it works—download speeds (by caching frequently requested files). But proxy servers often slow connections down. You can connect directly to the Internet by unchecking the Use a proxy server option in Internet Explorer's LAN Settings dialog (in the Internet Options dialog).

No I am not using a proxy server or PPPoE. The reason I am pretty sure it is a setting in Internet Explorer is because I have a computer upstairs networked through a hub to the same connection as this one and it has no delay at all. This is driving me nuts. It doesn't make any sense...
