I you don't want to slip up in anyway then just temperarily swop over the drives. set as master
Set to boot from floppy first in the bios
Use a 98 boot disc (you can make one if you havn't got one)
Fdisk
choose whatever partition you desire for this drive (primary dos partion) if you want to leave it whole.
Set active
Then format, this might take 20-30mins on a 6.4gb hd
Then the drive is ready to use.
You could set it now as slave and put it on the same IDE channel as the main hard drive (master)using the spare piggy back connector on the primary ribbon cable (hopefully it will have the spare connector) if not you will need a new cable.
There is Just one consideration doing this, if this drive is of a much slower spec than your main drive it will slow the main drive down a little.
Once connected as slave to the main drive (master) boot it up and you should see another hard drive in the control panel, ready to use.
Reset bios to boot from IDE 0 first.
