I have a celeron 400 on an i810 mobo. The mobo has a max of 3 PCI slots. There is one fan directly over the cpu and one in the power supply. If I fill all 3 pci slots with 2 NIC's and one oldschool voodoo card (no fan on graphics card) does anybody think I am going to need extra cooling for my system? Mike L.G.

naw.. don't worry about it. if you are still concerned then you can always dremal out a whole and add another fan on your case. also, you can always add some thermal compound on the cpu. but for a celeron 400...don't worry about it, even if your pci slots are all used.

I agree with Teknoguy... Unless you're bunging in some really powerful high tec whizzo cards there'll be no need for an additional cooling fan. However, do make sure your proc fan and the PSU fan are working ok and not bunged up with gunk, dust, etc.

I'd highly recommend getting a can of compressed air (from most PC shops, but I'm sure there's a cheaper alternative) and blast the dust out of you PSU, and CPU heatsink and Fan. A while ago I did this on a K6/2 500 that was only about 6 months old and there was a scary amount of dust that came out of the PSU and other parts. I think it helped, it certainly stopped me worying about the cooling anyway! :)

Yay, compressed air does the trick

What model is your mainboard, and have you looked thru all the drivers? my experience of ATX pro motherboards is that most have temperature and fan-speed sensing abilities - if this is the case, get yourself those drivers and get a much more accurate reading. My CPU seems to like it round the 40 degree mark or thereabouts - I have the same fan setup as you.

The compressed air is a great idea. I have a bunch of those little cans laying around at my work. Excellent feedback guys. Thanks!!! Mike L.G.

Hi,
I am not sure of the compressed air can.. how must it cost etc..
But I have bought a blower (Black & Decker).. handy one. Just open up the case cover and use the blower to clear the dust. Blow it thru the CAse POwerSupply holes, thru the Floppy Drive opening, (Before hand.. On the computer Eject
CD Drive to OPEN and Just power off.. to keep this open), blow theu the CD.. Then replace the cover. Have a look at the CPU fan, if it is working..

The blower will be handy for ever... And I do have this for over 7 or 8 years now. Think of a power extension cable to extend the power to a place where you can blow the dustttttttt.. It will be certainly a lot to spray on the interiors. ramani :-9

They only started putting an active fan on Celerons OVER 333mhz so your 400 only just needs a fan.
NO NEED FOR EXTRA COOLING!! Martin
