hello,

i got this problem first time:

i tried to increase the FS size in 4.2, but i got this error message:

0516-787 extendlv: Maximum allocation for logical volume xxxx is 200.
========

after displaying LVs, i found out that LP & PP are equal to 200 for the said FS.

i tried the following possible solution/s in aix 4.3:

1. chpv -a n hdisk# => turn-off allocation permission
2. chpv -a y hdisk# => turn-on allocation permission

:: where hdisk# = the disk wherein the said FS reside and have more available free space

is it the right way to do for this problem?

You need to increase the maximum number of LP's parameter specific to the LV i.e.

chlv -x 300 hd1

This increases the maximum number of logical partitions allocatable to hd1 to 300. It is basically a limit on how big your LV can be, regardless of what you try and do with the associated JFS. The maximum JFS size is then 300 * PP size.

i have one more concern before doing it. how am i able to figure out that i did increase the LPs/PPs particular to the LV?

i tried:

* before the change:

smit=>system storage mgt=>logical volume mgr=>logical volumes=>list all logical volumes by volume group

* after the change:

LPs & PPs didn't change for the said LV

will it give me in any way an indication that i made the change?

sorry, i just want to fully understand how it works.

lslv -m <lvname> works great! it'll give you all the PPs and LPs.
