Hi,

I have an IBM Netfinity 5500 server with an EXP300 rack. I had a RAID 5 volume with 3 36GB drives which made my usable drive space at 70GB. I need to increase that volume by one more disk. I added a 4th disk and added it to the array. It did its striping and ServeRAID Manager sees the additional space. I look in NT4 Server and it does not. I rebooted the server and now Disk Administrator shows the additional 36GB of space as free space on that volume. If I select both my existing volume and the free space and right click, my only option is "Extend Volume Set". I have several questions on this:

1) By doing this, is this the same as recreating the whole RAID volume with 4 disks?

2) Will I lose any data if I do this?

3) Will I have to reboot when this is complete?

Thanks in advance.

1) By doing this, is this the same as recreating the whole RAID volume with 4 disks? No, you are just concatenating the 36GB onto the end of the logical volume. Software RAID0

2) Will I lose any data if I do this? No

3) Will I have to reboot when this is complete? No
