I have 8 users all with Windows 2000. They log onto the domain without a problem. When a new user comes to there machine after a screen saver window lock, it takes about 2 to 4 mins to log off.

Everything else works very well and we are more that happy with the speed of all the services.

Any ideas.

Are they using any of the 3d screen savers such as 3d pipes? THose are notorious for wasting CPU cycles and that could be a factor. Other than that I have seem problems with the profiles causing this. Had to recreate profiles to resolve.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Cheers Markdmac.

We do have 3D pipes! Not any more I'll give that a try. You mentioned problems with the profiles. All the work stations are the smae exept the one XP PRO, could there be a problem with all the profile on all the 2000 machines. As I am realy new to all this can you expand a little for me.

Thanks

I doubt you would have problems with all profiles unless perhaps you recently upgraded some application. Are your profiles roaming profiles or just local ones?

I would suggest as a test that you create a new user. Log on and off and see how long it takes. If performance is where it should be expand your test. Backup a users data and try deleting their profile. (both local and server if you have roaming). Test with this user.

Any of the 3d screen savers are evil in my opinion based on my experience. Personally I just use the blank screen.

I hope you find this post helpful.

OK I am trying to get to the bottom of this. I agree that all the profiles are unlikley to be at fault.

As I said on the last post post I am realy new to this. How do I tell if we are using roaming profiles.

If I go into active directory users and right click on a user, then under profile I see the users profile. The profile path is empty, but the Login script says " SBS_LOGIN_SCRIPT.bat" So is this a roaming profile?

If the profile path is empty then you do not have roaming profiles.

Have you maybe enabled folder redirection? That would cause a delay in logout as it owuld need to transfer all data up to the server.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
