Hi All
Am Just about to add an external 300 gig drive purely for the purpose of music storage. Am wondering if there is any advantage in partitioning this drive at all?
It will purely contain wav and mp3 for archiving. I would welcome any opinions.
Thanks
Steve

I assume that you are running XP, and if so and there is no requirement for this ext drive to be functional with W9X, LINUX< MAC, or others, then using NTFS as your format there will be no advantage to partitioning.

I use partitions as organizational tools. On the hard drive, I keep VB and Net separate. Windows and Programs separate.

For all music, it may not be necessary, but you could organize using partitions, or folders. It's all a matter of choice with XP.

With DOS, it could only see a 2g partition, so you HAD to partition any drive that was bigger, or else it showed up as only 2g.
