Exporting to Excel 97 with Crystal 9 (problems with merged cells)

I've written a report in Crystal 9 to be exported into Excel and emailed to an XDA2 running Pocket Excel - however Pocket Excel cannot cope with merged cells.

Is there any way I can get Crystal to export the data into multiple cells rather than using the merge option?

My PHB is going to start threatening me with having to use a Win95-running laptop soon! :(
