I have a large number of GP settings configured in Active Directory. I would like to export these in some format and then import them into the local GP of several laptops.
Is there any way to do this please?

Thanks very much.

Have you looked at security configuration and analysis tool?

Thanks mrmoneymatters - I've had a quick look at this and can't see anything obvious. I can also see that by default the Local GP snap-in in XP doesn't appear to have any kind of import option.

MrTBC, I think you may be sol on this one. The only option for importing to the local security policy is an "inf" file. And when you export/backup the GPO from GPMC the exported files are placed in a folder and stored in .xml format. Here's an example from a template we apply to desktops at work.

[System Access]
MinimumPasswordAge = 2
MaximumPasswordAge = 60
MinimumPasswordLength = 7
PasswordComplexity = 1
PasswordHistorySize = 13
LockoutBadCount = 5
ResetLockoutCount = 480
LockoutDuration = -1
NewGuestName = "guest-disabled"
ClearTextPassword = 0

[System Log]
MaximumLogSize = 5120
AuditLogRetentionPeriod = 0
RestrictGuestAccess = 1

[Security Log]
MaximumLogSize = 25024
AuditLogRetentionPeriod = 0
RestrictGuestAccess = 1

[Application Log]
MaximumLogSize = 5120
AuditLogRetentionPeriod = 0
RestrictGuestAccess = 1

[Event Audit]
AuditSystemEvents = 3
AuditLogonEvents = 3
AuditObjectAccess = 3
AuditPrivilegeUse = 2
AuditPolicyChange = 3
AuditAccountManage = 3
AuditProcessTracking = 2
AuditAccountLogon = 3
CrashOnAuditFull = 0

Try something like this, I think it's your only option and you can import it. Later.
