Can anyone educate me on how to export pages in firewirks with text on them to dreamweaver or just for the web for that matter and keep the text as text and not jpg, gif, tiff, or bmp?

Ok...I have the answer...I have used this many times but wanted to make sure that I had the panel names and options correct...

First...create a slice in Fireworks document wherever you want your text to be. Select the slice and then in the slice objects panel there is a drop down box called "type".

Select "text"

You have serveral options...you can type your text in and then export the fireworks document to Dreamweaver for editing,

You can add font tags to the text that you input into the Slice Objects Panel. You could easily change your text to an Arial Font with a Bold Style by simply adding these tags and attributes to the text as you type it in the window,

Or you can just export the Fireworks document with the slice intop Dreamweaver and add the text and all the formatting within the Dreamweaver environment.

either way...you have several options and it will just be up to you how you choose to do this.

I hope this will help you...if you need more help...just post again in this thread and I will try to help you.

Hi TulsaJeff,

I tried that, cannot view slices in dreamweaver, heres the export settings i used:

I chose export to dreamweaver, chose gif 128, chose use slice objects and sent it to dreamweaver and cannot view the slices in the dreamweaver editor.

You said this:

"Or you can just export the Fireworks document with the slice intop
Dreamweaver and add the text and all the formatting within the
Dreamweaver environ"

does it sound like i did that right.

It seems you exported correctly, however...

I think I forgot a little tidbit of info...Fireworks should have imported your images and slice(s) inside a table format....

you have to select the table cell that contains your text slice and delete it in Dreamweaver.

the slice used in that manner simply serves as a holder until it gets exported into dreamweaver.

Once deleted you can enter your text as you would normally.

try that and let me know how it goes. Ya' Gotta Love It!:)X-)

I see what you mean by that, it creates cells for me, but then i lose all images except rollovers. Any idea?

T

so when you click on the cell to delete the slice (text placeholder) it deletes everything except your rollover images?

Help me understand this.... Ya' Gotta Love It!:)X-)

No, after I export from FW to DW i then pull up that file in DW and all that i see is cells and my rollovers.

Is there any way you could email the png file to me. I think if I could look at it I could figure out exactly what it is you are trying to accomplish and I could be a little more specific about what you need to do to make it happen.

If not we will keep plugging along the way we are and we will eventually get you where you wanna go.

what are the specs on your PC as far as RAM, processor, mhz, etc?

The scanning in Fireworks and any other high definition program really tax a processor.

other than making sure that you have nothing else opened at the time you are doing the scanning process... I am not really sure... Ya' Gotta Love It!:)X-)

I will have to wait until I get home tonight to look at your png file...I don't have Fireworks here at work and I want to analyze it with the platform of origin. I will get back with you.

Hang in there! Ya' Gotta Love It!:)X-)

I think I may have the settings a little to high on the scanner, resolution etc. Oh and by the way thanks a million you'v been extremely helpful. do you do this for fun?

T

I do enjoy myself in here... and It has not been so long ago when I was a newbie and had to ask a million questions just to get one site built. This is my way of returning thanks to all the people that answered my questions. If you never ask you will never learn in my oppinion. Experience is the best teacher and it does not have to be your own. Ya' Gotta Love It!:)X-)

Wow, that's really awsome you are a great inspiration to new web developers. Thank you once again.
