I am using Windows Xp and have premiere 6.5 installed.
I capture my movies from my camcorder (JVC GRdv-serie) via firewire (nVidea Geforce 4 ti4200) and am able to do a lot of editting. However I get some problems down the line:

1) Working with transitions, I have problems using these in conjunction with video clips, not with mattes, pictures and titles. Previews persistently are black! what causes these problems?

2) Exporting my project works great, at least if it happens to tape(my camcorder)...however, if I export to movie, my video is black. Unlike titles, pictures and audio because again these work fine. Again, what is wrong?? I tried other export options, like mpeg1/2... but no succes=>black video

I work with a 2.66 Ghz P4 and have 120 gigabyte available. Since I am importing from my camcorder to Premiere and exporting to an uncompressed (to movie, avi.files) movie, I thought I stayed away from all the codec problems.

Do my problems look familiar to anyone?
Anybody knows a fix?

I'll warn you right off the bat I'm a hefty newbie to Premiere, but here's my pair of pennies. Video 2 is on top of Video 1, so to see Video 1, whichever part of Video 2 must be transparent. If you didn't make it transparent, large parts might come up as black (the default background color?). I find it strange that it works fine when exporting to tape, but not avi?

And I've not had the preview window peform my transitions at all, but they look fine when exported. I really haven't sat down with this program as much as I'd of liked. I need a good book, any of the dozen or so posters to this topic have any suggestions you swear by? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...but I'm just a C man trying to see the light

Thanks for the reply.

The transparancy is not the problem...indeed you better work with video 1a and 1b. But that is the same for titles, pictures etc. And these work fine and I edit with 1a and 1b most of the time.

I thought the problems I had with the transitions and with the exporting would ring a bell to someone...that's why I mentioned both of them, maybe there is some kind of connection? The biggest pain remains the exporting problem for me!

Anybody another clue?
