I use Premiere 6.5 Mac on my Apple G4 IMac and I have a problem whem exporting the timeline to Quicktime. I have project that last about 28 minutes. Relatively simple trakcs, no effects or so. When I select 'Export timeline', everything works as it should right up until the very very last moment when a warning box comes up saying:

'An error occurred while making your movie (approximately 90-100% had completed)'

On the line beneath this, it has the number '4'.

When I click 'OK' on this box, and new little window comes up and says:

'An error occurred - I/O error'

Does anyone know what this is or what it means and what I can do about it. I use Premiere 6.5, OSX 10.3.9 and Quicktime 7.0.3. I'm feeling pretty hopeless.

I don't use a Mac, so my comment is a general one.

Failed exports can be caused by corrupted clips which, apart from export problems, seem to be OK. Certainly happens very occasionally on PCs.

It can be a useful diagnostic exercise to isolate the approximate section of bad timeline using the work area bar and try exporting just that. If it fails again, you should have a better idea where in the section the failure occurred to narrow the search. Once you have isolated the clip or timeline section, then replacing the footage may be necessary to get a clean export, if necessary by recapturing.

If a shorter export works fine, then you may have other issues for which a Mac input will be appropriate.

Hi Akribie,

Thanks for your reaction. I have tried already to make the clip shorter. But it makes no difference. When exporting you see the timeline walking to the end. When it has reached the end it still takes sometime to finalize, and at that very point it gives the error. So I'm afraid it has more to do with the finalizing than with certain parts of the movie. But thanks for your attention anyhow.

Just a thought, which I encountered once. You could try shortening the work area by a few frames from the end of the occupied timeline and see if that makes any difference.
