Export of movie to VHS Tape

I am relatively new to video editing. I have Adobe Premiere 6 and I have succeeded in editing some video clips I took with my digital camcorder. Now I want to transfer the edited video unto a VHS tape. In short I am not succeeding and I don't know whether it's because I'm missing something in Premiere or else because I have to adjust my graphics card's settings. I own an NVidia FX5200 card with TV out.
Once I have saved a project in Premiere, how am I going to transfer the video to the video recorder which will be connected via the TV out socket of the video card? Is there any further step to do? I just played the edited video in the Monitor window in Premiere but it seems no output from the PC was recorded on tape.
I would be much obliged if someone gave me some help.

Are you using the PRINT TO TAPE commander under File?

For your export, you might have to set your desktop settings to 640 x 480 and you might have to make sure that your VHS deck is set to record from the line, rather than the tuner. Also, check your video settings -- most cards don't automatically feed the NTSC-out and the digital. So, you might simply have the NTSC-out deactivated.

Thanks for your replies. I do not have a video capture card. I only have a graphics card with TV out. Ever since my first posting in this thread I have succeeded to record an AVI file onto VHS tape. I used Print to Video. However it only recorded black and white, I guess it's because of some settings adjustment I should make. The graphics card is an NVidia GeForce FX5200
However, to convert a Premiere Project into a Movie file, it seems to take ages.
What I don't understand is the use of the command Export Timeline>Print to Video. I tried to use this command for a Premiere project but the screen remained blank. When I use this command for a clip it starts playing at full screen and output to say VHS tape is possible. Is it necessary to convert the project into a movie file before you can think of recording it on some media or else can one start recording on tape directly from the timeline?

How is your VHS set up? Are you recording on your LINE IN or through F-Cable? Is your VCR receiving any signal from your computer?

Once again thanks for your interest. I am recording through the input socket of my VCR. It is receiving signals since I succeeded to record on VHS tape but the recording was in BLACK & WHITE. I have also connected a TV directly to the output from my computer and also the picture on the TV was in black & white. So I guess it might be some settings either on the graphics card or else in Adobe Premiere.
What I would like someone to tell me is, do I have to export/save my Premiere project to AVI before thinking of exporting it to a VHS tape? I'm not sure whether I have made myself clear.

borgg001, try this: connect the NTSC OUT from your video card DIRECTLY to your television (there should be a connector, probably called ANT-IN or LINE-IN) and then do your print-to-video (loop indefinitely to keep feeding a signal). Play something -- anything -- out the video card via Premiere and hunt around on your TV until you find that darn signal. You might find it on channel 3 or 4, or you might find it using a setting for "line 1 in" or "line 2 in" or "aux in".

Do that before you try getting a VCR in the mix.

What your describing sounds like you might have the wrong channel selected on your receiver. This should help you determine what you can.

Now, let's say you DO find your signal and it's clean and neat and there's sound and it's in color. At this exact moment, you KNOW that everything coming out of the computer is fine, so your problems are very likely to be a VCR setting. If you cannot find a good and happy signal, then you can be pretty confident that your VCR is working correctly, but just with a bogus signal.

Thanks EdwardMartinIII for your interest in my problem. After so much trying I finally succeeded to get the required signal and I am getting a colour picture. I have connected a TV and the picture is OK. However problems seem to continue cropping up.
Now getting back to Premiere! I have saved a Project which is some 25 minutes long. If I were to Export to Movie to change it into an AVI file, it would take me ages (Premiere indicated some 17 hours - I have a Pentium 4 2.8GHz). If I have an AVI file opened in Premiere, and I PRINT TO VIDEO, I will get a fullscreen picture on my desktop as well as on the TV connected to my PC. In this case I can record the output signal on a VCR. However if I try to Export Timeline by using PRINT TO VIDEO I end up with a black screen both on the PC as well as on the TV. Before Printing to Video, you have the possibility of choosing colour bars before your video. When Printing Timeline to Video, these colour bars do appear on screen however the screen then turns black and no video signals appear.
I don't know whether some light will be shed on how to solve this problem.

I'm a little confused at the difference between the following two conditions:

and
However if I try to Export Timeline by using PRINT TO VIDEO I end up with a black screen both on the PC as well as on the TV.

What are your Project Settings?

In your timeline, what happens if you hit ENTER? Does it produce a preview? Can you see the preview?

Thanks EdwardMartinIII for your interest. I guess I succeeded in asking a rather straightforward question in a rather complicated way. Sorry for mixing you up. Let me put it this way (hopefully more clear).
I have imported a number of clips, added titles and transitions and saved the whole as a Premiere project. When I hit <Enter> I get a preview of the video in the Monitor window only. In this case, if I select <Export Timeline><Print to Video> what should I get? Should I get a fullscreen playback of my video? In my case, I am getting the colour bars for a second or two and then I get a blank screen.
I will stop here for the moment.
My project settings are the following:
Compressor: Microsoft DV (PAL) since I live in Europe
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV Aspect Ratio (1.067)
Frame Size: 720 x 576
Frame rate: 25fps
Preview setting is set &quot;From Disk&quot;
I don't know whether you need any further settings details.
