My situation is dire....

I've got windows XP home and for some reason it's got into a state where I can no longer load Windows Explorer without it hanging. The whole system freezes and I can't do anything.

The machine is on a LAN with PC MacLan also installed so I think there is some sort of network browsing issue... is there a windows 'fix' that I could apply? I know there is some way of getting XP to check the OS files - does anyone know how? Or I was wondering if a reinstall over this version would be productive...

anyone with similar experiences would help!!!

Cheers,

Graham.

What is the situation if you are in Safe Mode? Will Explorer then load?

Also try loading the "Last known good configuration" from the Safe Mode options.

Using the System File Checker program will check for corrupt system files (have your XP CD handy) and type SFC /Scannow in the run box.

Repairing windows by re-installing it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
