I have a problem when trying to open my computer with a box opening up saying explorer has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down after that box I get one saying microsoft internet error in internet explorer. The only way I've found to be able to then access my computer as well as some of my other programs is by shutting down my computer and then when its back up I can access the my computer file 1-2 before the error box again appears. This is very annoying can someone help? Thanks.

Did you add any new hardware(specifically memory) or software right before the problem started?
Does it work in Safe mode?

Buy anychance it is a bogis copy of windows 98 ?
Do you have anygames installed and do You have cheats for the games that have been downloaded !
Any Free music programs installed on the machine !
free virus scan that picks up some what more than what i have seen Norton do !

Hi no I haven't added any new programs and the only games that are installed and there are 2 of them are ones I purchased. The windows 98 is the one installed by Dell on my computer. I'm not sure what the safe mode is in order to say if it works in it. Thanks, Watercolorist

Press and hold the Ctrl key during startup, select Safe Mode from the menu, and press Enter.
If things work ok there, then there's likely either a driver or software problem. Do a clean boot to troubleshoot it:

If the problems happen in Safe mode, then check for a virus. If none is found, then it's probably due to a hardware problem(most likely the memory).
If you added any memory before the problem started, then try it in different slots.
If no luck, then remove the new memory.

If no new memory was added then go into BIOS by pressing and holding the Del key(or whatever key is specified to enter setup on the 1st or 2nd screen during startup), and make sure that no 'optimal' settings are enabled for the memory as these can make the memory run in an unstable manner.
If things are ok in BIOS, then shut down, ground yourself, pull the power cord from the back of the computer, open it up, and remove and reseat the existing memory a few times.
If that does not work, then try the memory in different slots.
If still no luck, then the memory may be faulty.

Not to change the subject, but I have had an on going problem that I can not track dowm, kind of like yours with an error message as follows and occurred on:

EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff9d709.

Stack dump:

I must close down PC, reboot and then go on line, refresh the folders options, and then the Explorer will work untill the same error comes up. I suspect it may be a tracking file or some sort, (Adult site tracking file)as I have found thiis file :
Alexa
key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\soft
ware\microsoft\internet
explorer\extensions\{c95fe080-8f5d-
11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a}
And I have deleated this file several times and the issue quit but then I still get the:

invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff7b997,

and I havent been able to track down this Nuisance issue. I did however download a Virus program (for free) Adware, which has seemed to help to prevent/identify/delete internet tracking cookies/attachments. Just thought I would mention this here, as I know what kind of problem you are going through. If any one here may have also have a suggestion to this problem, please let me know. Thanks AnitaGreenCash.

Can I join in on this I also get an illegal operation. But it is only on one game that my son plays Never Winternights.I have installed a new pci video card, had a few problems but the card is working great now. It only does this on this one game and in the same place. Any ideas? Thanks for allowing me this moment. PEARL

Alexa is spyware download spybot. this is very hard to get rid of permantely. i find it at least 2 or 3 times a month.must be key in reg. I dont know, but i am sure someone here does. PEARL

killowhat,

If an error message occurs only during a specific application, then it's usually software related.

What is the exact text of the error message, including what's shown by clicking the 'Details' button?

I will post back when I can get the game going and write down the info. all i can remember is illegal operation box and nwmain box>never winternights, from what i can find does have some conflicts with redeon, but not my situation. thanks for your reply. PEARL

AnitaGreenCash...

seen this???

...and, by the by, AdAware used to be the weapon of choice, but they haven't updated their engine since Sep '02, thereby rendering it a little obsolete (check out for starters).

Go with SpyBot...I've found that it makes AdAware look a little light in the seat...finds things that AdAware woefully misses... (AdAware's 'sposed to have an update for us mid-February)
