I've had this problem since XP came out. If you configure each folder to open in a seperate process (for stability), it spawns a new explorer.exe in addition to the regular explorer.
The problem is that the new process defaults to a high priority. This becomes a real problem with the new multimedia extensions in windows. Explorer likes to eat 100% of the CPU whenever it encounters a folder with any multimedia files. Because the process priority is so high it steals cycles from other programs like client applications, and causes mp3's to stutter.
I would like to know if there is a way to set the priority to normal in a permanent manner.
And if there is a fix for the 100% CPU utilization problem with explorer.exe
I've checked technet to no avail.
