have serveral computers on a shared internet connection, router and hubs not ics, one is a file share using linux/samba [used to be win98], the entire time we've had this setup [either o/s on the fileshare] when we acces the file share [not every time but very regulary] there's problem with explorer, another copy of it runs [when viewed by task manager] whitch bloats up till it's using up to 200Mb of ram and 99% of the cpu [a p4 2.8, amd two xp 2500 based systems] killing the second explorer sorts it but it's VERY anoying [on one it's a single explorer but it's the same prob, killing then relaunching explorer sorts it].
All are firewalled with sygate blocking any none fileshare activity via UDP [talking of whitch anyone know why *.*.*.255 (MAC address ff.ff.ff.ff.ff.ff) is allways active with filesharing, or is it just another ms backdoor???] all the computers [bar the fileshare] are running xp pro with sp1.
any one with any ideas?
thanx in advance.
